Future of Design

Architecture and Interior

I am a huge fan of selfsufficient housing. My main focus lays in merging nature with architecture almost seamlessly and create a visually appealing contrast. Well designed Architecture does not only apply forms of nature to fit into its environment but as well uses shape language that nature designed over millions of years for technological benefit. We already do it with planes by mimicking bird anatomy - why not look at animals when building homes?
Naturally, underwater housing that resembles jellyfish in shape and form would be exciting for me to fantasize and learn more about.
I remember having a dream about a skyscraper that grows plants vertically to safe space. Later i discovered that such technologies already where partly active or in full reasearch.
By coincidence i discovered that one architect covered all my innovative fantasies on architecture, his name: Vincent Callebaut.

When researching my interior design, I refused using pictures that you can find when googling "Sci fi Interior design" because the results that i achieved by using these key words were boring, cold, minimalistic living rooms that i couldn't imagine to live in. Therefore I combined the Architecture and Interior into one by presenting Callebaut's Interior Ideas on his innovative architectural designs.

AEQUOREA 
Vincent Callebaut Achitectures

A multi-use oceanscraper printed in 3D from the "seventh continent's" garbage.*
Location: The 5 Ocean Gyres and Rio de Jaineiro, Brazil
Program: 10 000 housing, fab labs, offices, co-working spaces, workshops, scientific basis, sea farms, organic agriculture
Building Cost: 1950 Euros per square meter.
Status: research and developement

The complex is explained in form of an open letter written by a fifteen year old that lives in the 2060s and was born under water.

My name is Océane. I'm 15 years old. I'm an aquanaut teen. I was born in immersion in 2050 in an underwater farm called "Aequorea" off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. Bio-inspired, the farm draws its name from a bioluminescent, light-emitting jellyfish characterized by its articulated, webbed tentacles. These tentacles enable it to swim and ensure its stability, while producing its own energy. 

It's a genuine underwater village printed in 3D from algoplast, a composite material they invented that mixes algae with garbage from the 7th continent. *You know, the 7th continent? That infamous soup of plastics formed at the beginning of the century in the heart of the five main ocean gyres, where the Coriolis effect causes the currents to swirl. 


















FARMSCRAPERS

Fixing following problems:
- keeping ecological footprint to a minimum by reducing the means of road, rail and river transport
- the reintegration of local employment in the primary and secundary sectors
- city people increase knowledge on farming and organic products
- recycling water in short and closed loop
- reducing the deforestation outside the city
- limiting the systematic recourse to pesticides, insecticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers
- the oxygenation of polluted city centers
- contribute to pretty skyline :)



















PRODUCT

MOLEY KITCHEN

A kitchen that makes your food. Perfect for city people that don't have time to cook, learn cooking but don't want to give up on an affordable culinary experience.
It works easy: you download your todays menu onto the kitchen computer and make sure to place the right ingredients on the marked spots on the kitchen shelf. From this point the robot is good to go.

Blue Sky Idea: SLOW GLASS

It is your and your partners first anniversary. You couldn't schedule a trip because your jobs wouldn't allow the longterm absence. However you have the possibility to stay at a hotel over the weekend that would transport you anywhere you like without having to leave your smogged city.

How does it work? The Windows in your hotelroom are made of "Slow Glass". This is glass that light takes a long time to pass through, even years, so that a pane of this glass shows a scene from the past. People buy slow glass that has been placed in picturesque scenery so that later they can enjoy the view in their homes or workplaces. The best quality slow glass is priced by its "thickness", corresponding to the number of years of scenic view contained within it.

The idea comes from a short story called "Light Of Other Days" by Bob Shaw.




Fashion

I love prosthetics. I love that we can look like cool robots despite our handicaps. I love that missing limb isn't the end of the world anymore but gives you something to look forward to in terms of redesigning your body. Replacing your limbs with artificial ones can become a thing of normality as soon as technology evolves in a way where prosthetics lead to better results (stronger, faster, preciser, longer lasting than human limbs).
I can imagine doctors replacing their limbs for artificial ones to have a maximum level of stillness in their hands when practicing on complicated operational procedures.

PHANTOM LIMB

The Alternative Limb Project was approached by games giant Konami to create a bespoke prosthetic limb for an amputee gamer, inspired by the world of Metal Gear Solid, using cutting edge and innovative technologies.
The gamer in question was James Young, a speaker and Biological Science graduate with a passion for tech.

Technology woven in textile can be achieved easily nowadays. Industry standard thread machines can wove this new technology into clothing - it is a matter of very little time until technology in every set of clothing becomes a standard.

GRAPHIC DESIGN

I am very excited about augmented reality. Graphic design to me starts with the showcase platform and in this century we are elevating visual information out of the 2D realm into the 3D world. Design becomes an experience and i am excited for the years of research and technological breakthroughs in this area to come.


TILT BRUSH

Google introduced Tilt Brush to the Art world and we embraced it with open hands.
Using it feels like drawing a sculpture and even the process of making it turns into an improvised dance performance. 






HOLOLENS

A relatively similar project is Microsoft's Holo Lens. It allows you to project your virtual work into the real world. You can work on your 3D project while having the projection on the desk, you wont need a TV with the lens, virtual games can be set in living rooms as well!

Gnomon Campus Redo

REVISION:

The only acceptable international style building that i could imagine for gnomon had to be black, entirely covered in glass and in the form of a slightly stretched cube! I like the simplicity of it very much and think it would suit the school.






Bauhaus can be cool, Bauhaus can be incredibly boring and ugly. 

I did some ideation in photoshop (first picture) and ended up really liking the rectangular mess. I wanted to see if i can actually recreate it in 3D and used sketch up to help myself. Mind you, im not 3D artist yet which means i have not used a render software to make the object look pretty.

My idea is that a house can be build "correctly" in the Bauhaus way but what if you set the pieces together completely "wrong"? I love contrast so thats what i aimed for this time as well.
